How to hide a vault app on iPhone
On iOS 18 and later, touch and hold the app and choose Hide and Require Face ID. It disappears from the Home Screen, App Library and search, and moves to a locked Hidden folder. Hidy Vault Pro can also use a Calculator, Notes, Weather or Tasks icon.
- iOS 18+: touch and hold the app > Require Face ID > Hide and Require Face ID.
- Hidden apps live in a locked Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library.
- Simpler: remove it from the Home Screen (it stays in App Library), or use a disguised icon.
Option 1: Hide and lock it (iOS 18 and later)
- On the Home Screen, touch and hold the app.
- Tap Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode).
- Tap Hide and Require Face ID, authenticate, then tap Hide App.
Apple says a hidden app disappears from the Home Screen, App Library and search results, and moves to a Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library that needs Face ID to open. Only apps you downloaded can be hidden.
To open it, swipe past your last Home Screen page to App Library, tap Hidden at the bottom, and authenticate.
Option 2: Remove it from the Home Screen
Touch and hold the icon, tap Remove App, then Remove from Home Screen. The app stays installed and findable in App Library and search. Quick, but not really hidden.
Hidy Vault keeps photos, videos and documents in encrypted vaults that open only with a pattern you draw. No account, no Hidy server. Free for 3 vaults.
Option 3: A disguised icon (Hidy Vault Pro)
In Hidy's Settings > App icon, choose Calculator, Notes, Weather or Tasks. The name under the icon stays Hidy Vault. See disguised app icons.
What none of these hide
- App Store purchase history.
- Screen Time usage reports.
- The app's entry in Settings.
Hiding the app is camouflage. What protects the files is the vault's encryption: in Hidy Vault, nothing opens without a vault's pattern.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hide any app on iPhone?
Only apps you downloaded from the App Store. Built-in apps like Photos can be locked but not hidden.
Do hidden apps sync to my other devices?
No. Apple says the locked or hidden status of an app applies only to that iPhone.
Does hiding an app hide its purchase?
No. App Store purchase history and Screen Time can still show the app.
