Documents, notes and folders, all encrypted
A vault isn't only for photos. Hidy Vault stores documents from Files, private notes and folders, all encrypted on your iPhone the same way as photos. Documents and notes are included in the free plan.
- Import any file from Files: PDFs, scans, spreadsheets, archives.
- Write notes inside the vault and edit them later. Notes are encrypted too.
- Organise with folders. Removing a folder keeps its files in the vault.
Why documents belong in a vault
The Files app and email attachments are where ID scans, contracts, medical letters and tax papers end up. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open them. These are often more sensitive than photos, because they can be used to impersonate you.
What you can keep
- Documents: any file you can select in Files, including PDFs, scans and spreadsheets.
- Notes: plain-text notes written and edited inside the vault.
- Folders: group files and move them between folders. Removing a folder keeps its files in the main vault.
Hidy Vault keeps photos, videos and documents in encrypted vaults that open only with a pattern you draw. No account, no Hidy server. Free for 3 vaults.
How to add them
- Open a vault and tap add.
- Choose Files to import documents, or create a note or a folder.
- To capture a paper document without it ever reaching Photos, use Hidy's camera.
Viewing and sharing
Hidy previews documents inside the vault. Viewing decrypts a temporary copy on your device. Hidy clears those temporary files when you close the preview, when the vault locks and after a fresh app launch.
Sharing a document sends a readable copy to the app or person you choose. That copy is outside the vault's protection.
If you only need to stop edits to a PDF, locking a PDF in Files is the built-in option.
Limits
- Importing copies a file. The original stays in Files until you delete it.
- Notes are plain text. There's no rich formatting or attachments inside a note.
Frequently asked questions
Which file types can I store?
Any file you can pick in the Files app. Hidy previews common types such as PDFs and images, and you can share a readable copy to another app to open the rest.
Are file names encrypted?
Yes. File names, thumbnails, folders and notes are encrypted along with file contents.
Do documents count toward the free limit?
No. The free plan limits photos (100) and videos (10) per vault. Documents and notes are included.
Is this safer than locked notes in Apple Notes?
They protect different things. Apple Notes locks individual notes with your passcode or a notes password. Hidy keeps whole files and notes in vaults that your iPhone passcode doesn't open.
